A maternity centre for a rural community in southern Senegal, built around a healing garden: a sheltered courtyard where women and their families can rest, meet, learn and recover in a quiet, protected place.

We used local materials and building methods: rammed-earth walls, a raised straw roof on timber trusses, bamboo screens and coloured fabrics. The building stays cool without mechanical systems, softens the daylight and collects rainwater from its 553 m² roof.

Cost analysis
€57349 for the whole building.

About €194 per m² of indoor floor (≈296 m²). The other areas used below: tiled floor 504 m², roof surface 729 m², rainwater catchment 553 m² in plan. I took the quantities from the Revit model and priced them with local materials. The same earth, straw and timber that keep the building cool also keep it cheap to build.

RedBox Villa

A weekend villa with a party room, on a small plot overlooked by its neighbours. To keep most of the garden open and the bedrooms private, the courtyard is turned upright: a raised green void that splits the house into separate boxes. The living room is a glass box with a red volume hanging inside it.

AABB

A historic abbey in Rosta, near Turin, turned into a cultural and healing centre. As a class we wrote a new programme for the whole complex, based on Five-Sense Therapy, with spaces for wellness, art and the local community. Each group then took one of its buildings. Ours was the old stable, which we reopened as a garden restaurant and coffee bar with a glass sunroom, keeping its historical layers visible.

Everything started from the survey. We scanned the site with TLS, MMS and a UAV, added photogrammetry, and processed it all into a detailed digital model that can later become the base for a digital twin.

Droneport Redesign
01One module, form-found

A parametric take on Norman Foster's Droneport, a light piece of infrastructure for regions without roads. Each vault is form-found in Grasshopper with Kangaroo so that it works in pure compression, and the whole building is made of six identical brick modules.

The geometry goes from a relaxed mesh to a Rhino surface, then into Revit as a mass family, where BIM schedules count every square metre of brick, mortar, glass and concrete.

This is a live version of the Grasshopper definition: zero-length edge springs, an upward load and two catenary edge arches settle into balance, the same way they do in Kangaroo. At the design values the crown reaches 6.78 m, as in the Rhino model.

Seasonal Pavilion
Site axonometric of the pavilion, the storage and the winter stalls on the sloping riverside site

The site is next to a river that has flooded in recent years, so the first job was to understand how the water level changes through the year and to find a safe place to build. Our answer was a removable base and a modular frame that can be put up and taken down as the events and the seasons change.

In summer it is a stage for concerts, a music hall and an open-air cinema. In winter it holds market stalls. All year round it works as storage and as a passage. I modelled it in Revit to count every module and the space needed to store them.
